Castanet Technique: 1/2 hr. class

Exercises are given to develop articulation, coordination, speed and musicality. Correct position and placement for execution of castanet work will be taught and emphasized. Turns and combinations may be included.

Classical Spanish & Castanets: This class examines, teaches and practices Classical Ballet terms and vocabulary in order to combine Spanish/Flamenco dance with Classical and Neo-Classical choreography. Castanet use and proficiency is necessary. Expect "Center Work" and "Across the Floor" technique as well as some ballet work.

Beginning Flamenco: This class teaches beginning principles of flamenco movement. Class covers postura (posture), brazeo (armwork), floreo (handwork), vueltas (turns), taconeo (footwork) and compas (rhythm phrasing). Students will examine basic rhythms through palmas (hand clapping).

Intermediate Flamenco Choreography: This class continues teaching principles of flamenco movement. Choreography will be taught to appropriate level. Including entradas, marcajes, escobilla, falsetas & llamadas as the choreography requires. Students will continue to examine rhythms through palmas (hand clapping).

Advanced Flamenco Choreography: This class is designed for the experienced (Int. /Adv.) dancer, who already knows the basic compas of many flamenco "palos"or flamenco forms. Choreography will be taught to appropriate level. Including entradas, marcajes, escobilla, falsetas & llamadas as the choreography requires. Class continues teaching advanced principles and flamenco vocabulary & movement and continues examining rhythms through palmas (hand clapping). Some focus on stylistic implementations.

Beg. Flamenco Technique & Palmas: Technique classes will provide the students with the skills necessary to learn choreography. Class covers postura (posture), brazeo (armwork), floreo (handwork), vueltas (turns), taconeo (footwork) and compas (rhythm phrasing). Women will also cover skirtwork. An emphasis is put on building a solid practice base for correct footwork combinations with exercises for timing, quality of sound and coordination.

Int./Adv. Flamenco Technique & Palmas: Technique classes will provide the students with the skills necessary to learn choreography. Class covers postura (posture), brazeo (armwork), floreo (handwork), vueltas (turns), taconeo (footwork) and compas (rhythm phrasing). Women will also cover skirtwork. An emphasis is put on building a solid practice base for correct footwork combinations with exercises for timing, quality of sound and coordination.

Beg. Bulerias Choreography: Students learn Buleria structure and choreography of pellizcos, marcaje, llamadas and desplantes to improvise in a juerga setting, with cante as a guide. Simple patterns are taught and will be developed into more sophisticated patadas as the class develops.
