Ed young from Planetflamenco writes:

Its the fourth-largest fair in north america, it covers over 500 acres of desert in pomona, and is attended by between fifty and sixty thousand people a day. The triple-digit heat was only intensified on September 12th by the flamenco heat of La Sole's “A Nuestro Aire Flamenco  & celaya ballet folklorico y flamenco.

La Sole's International Arts Academy's youth ensemble took the “Fiesta” stage later in the day for a charming recital. The show had jotas, sevillanas, rumbas and some of the best smiles I have seen on any dancers anywhere. Everyone danced capably, and several dancers showed real potential.

Sole took to the floor herself later in the afternoon at the “Community” stage. Although they followed the sensational Peking acrobats, kudos to Sole and her A Nuestro Aire flamenco company for providing ample firepower of their own.

Most memorable was the opening classico piece with castanets, tangos and an intricately-choreographed sevillanas, which was executed with panache. The company was composed primarily of adults, but the three best dancers from the youth group were brought back for an encore.

Estrella Martin performed with both Sole's and celaya's companies, setting some sort of Los Angeles county fair tersichorean record for a twenty-four hour period. Estrella is a real trouper!

Sole and celaya offer further proof, as if any is needed, of the vitality of the flamenco scene in the inland empire. Excellent resident artists and classes; and a desert climate evocative of Andalusia, when it comes to flamenco the inland empire takes a backseat to no other region in southern California.

A tip of the planetflamenco sombrero-andaluz to all the ambassadors of flamenco who worked so hard to bring a little "aire" to the eighty-second Los Angeles county fair. Ole!
